The East of England Children’s Palliative Care Forum reports to the MCN Clinical Steering Group and assists in the implementation of this standard. It meets quarterly and is currently chaired by the Director of Care for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices. Membership is open to service leads, commissioners, family representatives and professionals working with children with palliative and end of life care needs.
The Palliative Care Forum is responsible for and has been established to:
Agree an annual work programme informed by the work of the MCN
Promote and implement best practice and evidenced based care, clinical standards, policy and practice with an emphasis on ensuring equitable, consistent high quality service provision, development of models of service delivery and a seamless transition in care across the whole patient pathway
Review and develop a programme, along with the MCN, to implement end of life care for infants, children & young people (NICE Guideline December 2016)
Provide a forum for networking and peer support
Identification and problem solving of service delivery issues
Provide a forum for learning and sharing of good practice and innovative service models
Assess the implications of national/regional policy and guidance for clinical care of children and young people with conditions which may require palliative care across primary, secondary, tertiary and community care
Ensure that effective mechanisms for patient, carer and public engagement exist
Consider the overall workforce requirements for the network and consider the overall palliative care workforce education and training needs of teams and make recommendations to the MCN as required
Consider how to use the forum to Influence the development of service across the region
The Palliative Care Forum meets on a quarterly basis. Membership is open to service leads, commissioners and professionals working with children and young people with palliative and end of life care needs and parent representatives.
